Wisconsin Hands Obama a Landslide
Duh.
I’ve been confused for the last week as to why the pundits were all saying that Clinton might pull it out in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin was demographically favorable to Clinton, they say. Ok, but Wisconsin is culturally extremely favorable to Obama. Culture trumps superficial demographic breakdowns.
Wisconsinites are pretty open to change. Wisconsinites like bipartisanship and being able to reach across the aisle. Wisconsinites also have a low tolerance for government incompetence, especially budgeting incompetence.
Obama is of course the Man of Change. He is actually also a Man of Substance, having sponsored a decent number of interesting and important, if un-sexy legislative efforts. Despite being significantly younger than Clinton, he more than holds his own in this department.
Which brings me to the remaining point: despite her supposed “experience” (surely, surely she is not planning to trot that out against John McCain?), her only real political/executive skill appears to be a willingness to play dirty. Never mind the Great Healthcare Reform Failure. The coverage of her campaign these last couple weeks has all been about gross incompetence. Mismanagement of money and lying to donors about it. Forgetting to register a full slate of delegates in Pennsylvania. Only just figuring out Texas’s weird primary/caucus rules.
Maybe she should have asked Scott McCallum and Sue Bauman how Wisconsin voters respond to that sort of thing.
