You Know You're in Grad School When…
…you have stress-related dreams about journal papers.
Yes, journal papers.
I dreamed that a friend and I both submitted papers for publication. His came back with rave reviews and was accepted immediately. Mine came back with about 20 pages of ridicule attached to it, and an admonition that I should reconsider my career choice.

When I was in grad school, I had a dream that I was going to lab. Then I woke up and had to go to lab. This was when I would spend 12-16 hours in lab (the last few months when I was really, really serious about getting done with lab). The dream lab and real life lab were equally tedious.
In high school, and sometimes college, I would have these horrible recursive dreams.
1. Get up and get ready to go to class.
2. Realize that #1 was just a dream.
3. Get up and get ready to go to class.
4. Realize that #3 was a dream.
Rinse, repeat.
Dragging myself out of bed once is bad enough. Doing it over and over for hours? Torture.
They actually did an X-Files episode sort of like that.
Oh yes… dreams about journal papers, about class, about meetings…
Two weeks ago I had a dream about talking to my advisor. And I woke up and realized it was the missing paragraph from my proposal. It’s just wrong.
